(Estherville)—Two Estherville banks are joining forces.
It was announced today (Wed.) Northstar Bank has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase the Emmet County State Bank. Officials say the transaction is expected to close by the end of the year pending regulatory approval.
Emmet County State Bank has been owned by the Currell family since it was founded in 1927. In a news release, Jim and Greg Currell say it’s been a privilege to serve their customers over those years and that the transition should be easy and convenient.

The merger also includes the Emmet County State Bank’s Insurance Agency, which will fall under the auspices of NorthStar Agency.
The combined NorthStar Bank with assets of more than $170 million will have offices in Estherville, Armstrong and Ringsted.
