(Sibley)– A Kansas man was injured Saturday night after losing control of a semi tractor-trailer he was driving on Highway 60 near Sibley.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says 34-year-old Daniel Burns of Salina, Kansas was driving a 2007 International semi and trailer northbound when he swerved to avoid some deer. The semi traveled into the median where it ran over an emergency turnaround embankment. The semi and trailer then went airborne for about 30 feet and continued across the median before coming to rest in the southbound lane of Highway 60, blocking traffic and leaking diesel fuel.
Burns sustained incapacitating injuries and was transported to Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.
The semi and trailer, owned by Doug Bradley Trucking, Incorporated of Salina, Kansas sustained approximately $50,000 in damage.
Burns was cited for failure to maintain control.
The crash took place shortly before midnight.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Sibley Fire and Rescue, the Sibley ambulance, Iowa Department of Transportation and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
