(Sibley)– A single-vehicle crash early Tuesday on Highway 9 near Sibley injured an Adrian, Minnesota woman.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says 43-year-old Jackalyne Hieronimus was driving a 2002 Ford Escort westbound when she fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway. Authorities say Hieronimus then over-corrected and lost control. The vehicle struck a guardrail and went into the south ditch where it ran over a field fence before coming rest facing northbound.
Hieronimus sustained incapacitating injuries and was taken to the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.
Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,0000. The guardrail, owned by the Iowa Department of Transportation, sustained an estimated $3,500. Damage to the field fence, owned by Gene Hassebroek of Sibley, was put at roughly $50.
The crash took place shortly before 5:00 a.m.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Sibley Fire and Rescue and the Sibley ambulance.
