Dickinson County Residents To Vote Again On 911 Initiative

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A proposal to increase a surcharge on land line phone to help fund improvements to Dickinson county’s 911 system will be back on the agenda for the November General Election. The county’s Emergency Management Coordinator, Mike Ehret, tells KUOO news they’re proposing to increase the surcharge from 75 cents to one dollar per month per line. He says the increase is needed if the county is to keep its 911 system up to date and functional…(click here for comment from Ehret.)

Ehret adds the rate hasn’t changed since the county’s 911 system was first put into operation…(click here for comment from Ehret.)

Ehret says the change would only affect land line phones. The 65 cent per line charge for cell phones would remain the same. Ehret says only the legislature can change that, something he hopes they’ll address in the upcoming session.

On somewhat of a related note, absentee voting for the November General Election starts today (Thurs. 9/27). More information is available by contacting your local County Auditor’s Office.
