Another Arrest Made In Connection With The Beating Of A Ruthven Man

(Spencer)– Spencer police say another arrest has been made in connection with the beating of a Ruthven man who later died of his injuries.

Authorities say 21-year-old Cody Millard of Spencer was arrested Thursday at his place of employment by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office. Millard was transferred to Clay county authorities and was booked into jail on a charge of murder in the 1st degree. Bond was set at $250,000.

Another suspect in the case, 21-year-old Chris Fitzpatrick of Spencer, has pleaded not guilty to the same charge. He remains in the Clay county jail on a $250,000 cash or surety bond.

The victim, 59-year-old Edward Kitto, was found unresponsive in a back yard in Spencer August 28th. Authorities say he had been severely beaten and never regained consciousness. Kitto died September 8th.

Spencer police were assisted in the arrest of Millard by the Clay County Attorney’s Office, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.
