Campground Renovation Completed

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)—Other than re-seeding some grass and building a fish cleaning station, officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say a renovation of the Emmerson Bay Campground on West Lake Okoboji is complete.

The $640,000 project involved removal of trees and brush, installation of new electrical lines, camping pads, fire rings and living spaces, and remodeling of a restroom/shower building.

Officials say the newly renovated campground has fewer total campsites, but more sites with electricity…82 to be exact. 23 of those have water and sewer connections.

They add the new sites are larger, level, and some offer the option to pull through rather than back in. Officials say the cable t.v. option that had been part of the old campground was not included in the project.

Yet to be built is a new fish cleaning station to be located along a new road in the green space northwest of the main boat ramp. Officials say it’s tentatively scheduled for completion in the fall of 2013.
