Suspect Wanted In Gas Drive Off Leads Police On Pursuit

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)—A suspect wanted in connection with a gas drive-off from a Spencer convenience store led authorities on a pursuit early this (Mon.) morning.

Spencer police say officers were notified of the drive off from Dyno’s in Spencer shortly after 1:30 a.m. An officer tried to pull over the suspect a vehicle a short time later in the area of West 18th Street and 4th Avenue West, but the suspect fled, leading officers on a pursuit that went north on 4th Avenue West. The driver lost control in the 2100 block. The vehicle went into the west ditch. The driver was able to get the vehicle out of the ditch and tried to hit a police cruiser. The pursuit then continued south of 4th Avenue West, where the suspect tried to go through a yard, but instead had to back up and in the process of doing so collided with a squad car, causing minor damage to it. The pursuit then continued southbound on 4th Avenue West where the suspect vehicle became blocked by road construction equipment. The suspect driver then swerved through the Farmer’s Co-Op parking lot and drove over some railroad tracks. From there the pursuit continued northbound on 1st Avenue West. The vehicle came to rest in the 100 block of West 6th Street, at which point the driver got out and a foot pursuit ensued. Officers were finally able to subdue the suspect after deploying a taser at him.

A female who also fled the vehicle was chased down by authorities as well.

The suspect driver, 43-year-old Gregory Roush, who’s latest known address is in Minnesota, was arrested and charged with felony eluding, operating while intoxicated, theft in the 5th degree, reckless driving, criminal trespass, and several traffic-related offenses.

The female passenger, 28-year-old Jamie Hayes who’s address isn’t known, was arrested and charged with public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both Roush and Hayes were booked into the Clay county jail.

A police officer was injured after he tripped and fell on a railroad tie.
