(Graettinger)– The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance as it looks for a suspect wanted in connection with a pickup that was stolen overnight Monday from the Pro Co-op in Graettinger.
Authorities say a deputy found the stolen pickup at the old city dump in Graettinger. Upon investigating further, the deputy saw a person walking around the back of the truck. The deputy watched as the suspect threw a small propane torch by a vehicle and started walking away. The deputy yelled at the subject, who then took off running into a wooded area.
The subject was wearing bluejeans, a navy blue sweatshirt, a dark ball cap and sunglasses. He was last seen headed west out of the wooded area.
Authorities deployed a K-9 unit in the area a short while later but were unable to turn up the suspect after tracking the scent for about a half to three quarters of a mile before the scent dissipated.
Anyone with information into the incident is being asked to contact the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office.
