LIHEAP Signup Underway

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– With much colder weather in the forecast, furnaces will be cranking up even more. Those looking for assistance in paying their heating bills are once again being reminded about a program designed to do just that. Upper Des Moines Opportunity is once again taking applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as “LIHEAP”.

Officials started taking applications November 1st and will continue to do so through April 30th, 2013.

The program is not designed to pay a household’s total energy costs. It instead provides supplemental assistance based on total household income, household size, dwelling type, type of heating fuel and other factors.

Households who are over LIHEAP regular income guildelines may be eligible through a medical waiver component. Medical expenses must be documented, paid, and non-reimbursable.

Anyone who has already applied and been approved for this winter season cannot reapply.

More information and appointments to apply may be made by contacting the Spirit Lake UDMO office at 336-1112. The office is located on the southeast side of the Great Lakes Mall.
