Winter Weather Advisory In Effect For Portions Of Southern Minnesota

November 22, 2014

(Undated)– The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Weather Advisory for portions of southern Minnesota.

The advisory is in effect from Noon today (Fri.) until midnight tonight (Fri.). 3 to 4 inches of snow is expected to fall in the advisory area, with lesser amounts to the south. 1 to 2 inches is expected in the Iowa Great Lakes, with amounts quickly tapering off the further south you go. Little or no snowfall is expected along and south of Highway 18, where most of the precipitation is expected to fall as rain or a mixed bag.

A more significant system will affect the region late Saturday into Saturday night and early Sunday. That system could have the potential to produce a widespread snowfall of 2 to 4 inches across a good deal of the region. Strong wind is also expected to develop during the day Sunday on the backside of the system, which could cause some blowing and drifting.

A WINTER STORM WATCH has been posted for the northern portion of southwest and south central Minnesota from Saturday night into Sunday afternoon. Heavier amounts of snow can be expected in that area.

Those with travel plans through the upcoming weekend should keep up to date with the latest forecast, advisories, watches and warnings.
