Forecast For Snow Serves As Reminder To Brush Up On Winter Driving Skills

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)—With the first measurable snowfall of the season in the forecast comes a reminder for us to brush up on winter driving skills. Vincent Kurtz with the Iowa State Patrol says there are several factors in particular to keep in mind…(click here for comment.) “Take the time to check your local forecast when these conditions could be present. Iowaroadconditions.org and 511 on your cellular phone will get you the latest road conditions from the Iowa State Patrol. Maintain a safe speed for the conditions and never use your cruise control when slick roads are a factor.”

Kurtz says now is also a good time to prepare a winter survival kit for each vehicle you own…(click here for comment.) “Items that should be included are blankets, coats, bottled water, high energy snacks, a flash light, cell phone charger or battery, a candle, matches, a tin can and a red flag.”

Kurtz also reminds everyone to make sure your vehicle has been winterized.
