Adopt A Family Program Needs More Help

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– There is still a need for help with the Adopt-A-Family program. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has more…(click here for actuality.) “Upper Des Moines Opportunity in Spirit Lake conducts its Adopt-A-Family program each holiday season to provide gifts to those in need in northwest Iowa. Center Director for Dickinson, Osceola and O’Brien counties, Laurie Ruuf explains… “It’s very simple. They can call our office at 336-1112. They choose a family and we tell them what the wishes are. If they’re for the children, we also have disabled, the elderly on the list. They go out and buy the presents, wrap them, then bring them to our office and we see that they get delivered. It’s quite an undertaking but we love doing it.”
She adds that help is especially needed in O’Brien county… “We have a real critical need in O’Brien county. We have a lot of families left to adopt over there. The list is extremely long over there. Through the O’Brien county office which is 957-1023.” Ruuf notes the Adopt-A-Family list is posted on Exploreokoboji.com under the announcements section. The deadline to help with the program is December 17th.
