(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors today (Tues.) voted three to two against a proposal to make the intersection of Stakeout Road and 235th Avenue, or the YMCA Road, a four-way stop.
Paul Johnson, Pam Jordan and Mardi Allen voted against the proposal. Johnson tells KUOO news they feel motorists traveling at a high rate of speed on Stakeout Road, or 175th Street, are contributing to the safety problem in that area…(click here for comment.) “Our biggest concern right now is that the people travelling on the east-west route are not respecting the 35 mile-an-hour zone and in fact are travelling at speeds in excess of as high as 50 or more. Putting in a four-way stop will be a concern that many are not familiar with the stop and will run the light and there will be even more accidents and maybe another fatality or more. In lieu of putting in the four-way stop we recommended as a board of supervisors to the Sheriff that he begin patrol car enforcement with the issue of speeding violation tickets in hopes that this would suppress this high speed in a dangerous intersection area.”
The intersection has become one of the most dangerous in the area with a high volume of accidents recently.
