SL Council Presented With Findings On Structural Inspection Of Police Station

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday was briefed on the condition of the building housing the city’s Police Department.

Steve Robinson, a structural engineer with the Short, Elliott, Henrickson engineering firm, told the council the building is in good shape structurally, but could use some TLC in a few places…(click here for comment.) “The building has a useful life. It does need some attention. Whatever your future plans are it certainly can withstand remodeling. The structure is in good shape. Looking at what the proposed plans are, we’re not affecting the structural components. You know I’d say the biggest issues are addressing the exterior envelope and the heat system. If you address those two I think you could have a useful life on this building of 20, 25, 30 years.”

The council took no action on Robinson’s report.

It’s been looking at making some major renovations to the facility, but wanted to hear about the building’s structural integrity before proceeding any further.
