Weekend Event To Benefit Project At Dickinson County Nature Center

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A benefit in Arnolds Park this weekend will help fund a project at the Dickinson County Nature Center. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson as the details…(click here for actuality.) The fifth annual Naughty or Nice Bar Crawl is slated for Saturday evening at several well-known Arnolds Park watering holes. Dickinson County Conservation Board Naturalist Charles Vigdahl helped organize the event. He says proceeds will go toward a new project. “This started off as an idea some of us in the area had. We used to do in college in college towns where they have bar crawls and the proceeds usually go to a charitable foundation and we thought hey why don’t we do one around here? That would be fun. We picked Christmas because that’s when everyone comes back from college and everyone’s in the area with their families and we thought it would be a fun time to do that. So it kind of got started and we donate to different charities, usually it’s the Nature Center, but this year it will be going toward the construction of a disc golf course over at Kenue Park that we’re doing.” Vigdahl adds that participants can stop by any of the five establishments Saturday evening to register for the crawl. “The bars that we are going to are Captain’s, Reuben’s, Lux, Smoking Jakes and The Gardens. Registration starts at 8:30 and you can go to any one of the bars. There will be people in there that are selling tickets. You pay $10.00. We give you a wristband and the ticket or pass and you go to every single bar within the allowed time, which is until midnight, then you get a sticker at every single bar. Then at the end of the night you go to The Gardens where we will be doing drawings at midnight for different prizes. Another part of this is we’re also doing a costume contest.” He notes that it’s recommended that participants designate a driver or use a cab service for safety following the event on Saturday night.
