Crop Advantage Meeting Scheduled For Okoboji

(Okoboji)—Area farmers are being urged to attend the next in a series of Crop Advantage sessions scheduled for one week from today, Wednesday, January 9th, at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center in Okoboji. Registration will begin at 9:30 that morning with the program starting at 10:00 a.m. and continuing into the afternoon.

Keynote speakers will include Chad Hart, ISU assistant professor of economics who will give a crop market outlook for 2013; and Antonio Mallarino, ISU Extension foil fertility and nutrient management specialist will discuss soil fertility issues related to the dry weather of 2012. The afternoon session will consist of various workshops including nutrient reduction, corn suitability ratings, corn disease management, nematodes, cover crops, herbicide resistance, corn rootworm management, soybean disease management, subsoil moisture and a review of research results from the ISU FARM project.

Private pesticide applicators will also be able to obtain continuing instructional course credits at the meeting for a fee of $20. That portion of the event will begin at 4:15 p.m.

The session is one of 13 Crop Advantage Series meetings being put on by Iowa State University of Extension. Advance registration is $35, which includes workshop materials, lunch and refreshments. Registration at the door will be $45. Continuing education credits will be available at an additional cost of $25.
