November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Our series highlighting the various offices in the Dickinson county courthouse this week focuses on the Clerk of Courts Office. Marcia Eckerman, Dickinson County Clerk of Court, told KUOO’s John Adams Sr. how the jury duty selection process works, along with other duties her office carries out…(click here for actuality.) “Our jury program is a state program. It is picked through your driver’s license, your voter registration, and possibly even utility bills that you’re possibly somehow connected to. We choose the names and you’re on jury duty for a term of three months at one time. If you’ve served before, you’re exempt then for two years.”

That’s just one part of the many many things you do here. What are some of the other duties that your office staff carries out? “We mostly process a lot of paperwork for the attorneys and work closely with the judges. We also work with people at the counter for the public. We file mental health papers, juvenile papers, probate, civil papers, traffic, criminal, simple misdemeanors. You come up and pay your fines here. We handle the dissolution of marriages, we handle a lot of different areas.”
