(Estherville)—Some new programs are in the offing at Iowa Lakes Community College. The college’s board of trustees Tuesday gave their go-ahead for the Water Quality and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning programs. Each will consist of two years of study. Notices of the college’s intent to offer the programs will be filed with the Iowa Department of Education. In the meantime, advisory committees will discuss, review and approve the final curriculum. Both programs will start in the fall of 2013 and will be based at the Estherville campus.
Trustees also Tuesday approved early retirement for 22 faculty and staff members. Those who were atleast 55 years of age and had worked at the college full-time for atleast 10 years were eligible. Those who are participating will leave the college no later than June 30th of this year.
Trustees also accepted the gift of an airplane engine and parts. Some will be used for student learning; other items will be sold with the proceeds going to update GPS equipment in the college’s aviation fleet.
