Spencer Police Department Gears Up For Citizens Academy

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The Spencer Police Department is gearing up for its 11th annual citizens academy to be held March 5th through May 7th. It will be held each evening from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 or 8:30 p.m.

Chief Mark Lawson says the goal is to educate participants on how law enforcement personnel carry out their duties. Lawson says it’s also intended to improve the relationship between law enforcement and citizens.

Topics will include search and seizure, criminal laws, communications center opertaions, 911, crime scenes, drug investigations, traffic enforcement, domestic abuse investigation, child abuse investigations, departmental programs, adult and juvenile systems, and ride-alongs with officers.

The class size will be limited. Students will be selected from applications submitted. The academy is open to all interested residents in the area.

A $35 fee will cover the cost of materials.

The application deadline is February 15th.
