(Spirit Lake)– It’s a somber day today (Mon.) at Spirit Lake Elementary school, where six-year-old Jonah Holmes was a student.
In a statement issued this (Mon.) morning, Superintendent Dr. David Smith says Principal Shane Boeve attempted to contact parents of Jonah’s classmates after learning of the loss yesterday (Sun.) so they would have a chance to discuss it with their child. Dr. Smith says parents of all Elementary students were contacted, along with teachers, staff and faculty. He adds that a meeting was held with Elementary School staff prior to the start of school this morning.
Counselors have also been on hand today (Mon.) to visit with students, and Dr. Smith says additional resources are being gathered that will be shared with families to help answer any questions students may have.
Dr. Smith says the school extends its deepest condolences to the family.
Jonah lost his life in a tragic automobile accident Saturday evening on Interstate 90 just west of Worthington (see previously posted story).
