Prairie Lakes Audubon Society Announces Plans For Bird Sanctuary

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– Plans to build a local bird sanctuary are in the works. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has the details…(click here for actuality.) The Northern Iowa Prairie Lakes Audubon Society will host a meeting at the Dickinson County Nature Center this (Thurs.) evening where plans are in the works for a new bird sanctuary. Prairie Lakes Secretary Dave Kuehl: “The speaker’s going to be Matt Thelen of Oleson Landscaping. They have received the go ahead to put the bird sanctuary project in. Our club is paying for that. It’s going to be in memory of Dale and LaVonne Foote. They were founding members of the Audubon Society in Spirit Lake back in 1978.”

He adds that the sanctuary is designed for viewing from the nature center. “It’s going to be right up around the nature center. You can go out on the platforms and there’s going to be a water feature in it I believe and it’s going to attract birds right up next to that southeast corner I think. So people can go out on the deck and watch the birds. There will be bird feeders out there.”
