(Spencer)—Spencer police are alerting the public to another scam operation making the rounds.
They say they’ve received reports of elderly residents in the area receiving phone calls from people claiming to be representatives of Social Security and Medicare. They say the perpetrators try to confirm information about banking account numbers, routing numbers and Social Security numbers. Spencer police remind everyone that Social Security and Medicaid programs do not call people for that type of information.
They say if you’ve received such a call and have given out confidential information, that you should notify your bank and local law enforcement so proper monitoring procedures can be put into place.
