Two Vehicle Collision On West Side Of Spirit Lake Sends One Person To Hospital

(Spirit Lake)—A two-vehicle collision late Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 9 and Hudson Avenue in Spirit Lake sent one person to the hospital.

Spirit Lake police say 38-year-old Thomas Allen of Spencer had stopped at a stop sign on Hudson Avenue when he pulled into the path of a vehicle driven by 56-year-old Debbie Brekke of Spirit Lake who was eastbound on Highway 9. Police say the vehicle Brekke was driving then left the road and collided with a light pole before it traveled down into the ditch.

Brekke was transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare; no injuries were reported to Allen, who was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway.

Damage to a 2009 Chevrolet being driven by Allen and owned by Okoboji Motor Company was estimated at $8,000; a 2007 Honda Brekke was driving sustained an estimated $9,000 in damage. Damage to the light pole owned by the city of Spirit Lake was put at $3,000.

The collision took place shortly after 4:30 p.m.

Spirit Lake police were assisted on the scene by the Spirit Lake Fire Department, Spirit Lake First Responders, and the Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and paramedics.
