Bank Officials Warn Of Debit Card Scam

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)—Area banks are sounding a warning about a new scam involving debit cards.

Officials say they’ve had numerous reports of people receiving automated phone calls. The calls name several local banks by name and state that your debit card has been de-activated and in order to re-activate it, you need to follow prompts given in the message. You’re then asked to provide various personal information, along with your debit card number.

Officials say it’s a scam and that local banks have nothing to do with those calls. They say that if you have questions about your debit card, that you should contact your bank. Anyone who has received such a call or unknowingly participated in the scam should also contact their bank immediately.
