OHS Participates In State Solo And Small Ensemble Festival

(Milford)– Students representing Emmetsburg, North Union, Okoboji,  Pocahontas, Sibley-Ocheyedan, and Sioux Central participated in the Iowa High School Music Association’s State Solo and Small Ensemble Festival hosted by Sioux Central High School on Saturday, April 6.  Judges rate each performance on a scale of I (Superior) to V (Poor).  Okoboji students participated in 49 individual performances earning 35 Division I Ratings (Superior), 10 Division II Ratings (Excellent), and 4 Division III Ratings (Good).

Soloists earning a Division I Rating were Mallory Gibson, Erin Moir, Mikayla Perkins (flute); Mallory Luers (clarinet); Abi Meyer (alto sax); Emma Myhre (tenor sax); Melanie Clemen (bari sax); Alex Adams, Maddie Bates, Tyler Ohl (trumpet); Sydney Boeckholt, Thor Heimdal, Tom Mayer, Anna Seeger (trombone); Dalton Adams, Jessica Hudson (euphonium); Abie Hudson, Brittany Kolbeck, Sara Mayer (marimba); Shanae Haan, Emma Myhre, Alex Adams (vocal).

Ensembles earning a Division I Rating were Flute Trio (Mikayla Perkins, Erin Moir, Haley Bushee), Flute Ensemble (Mikayla Perkins, Mallory Gibson, Erin Moir, Haley Bushee, Emma Myhre), Clarinet Duet (Brandie Bushee & Lindsay Bauman), Woodwind Duets (Mikayla Perkins & Mallory Luers), (Haley Bushee & Brandie Bushee), Saxophone Ensemble (Abi Meyer, Melanie Clemen, Emma Myhre, Mallory Luers and Jon Ahrens), Trumpet Duet (Maddie Bates & Tyler Ohl), Trumpet Trio (Jay Oldenkamp, Mathew Grisham, Dani Dunn), Brass Duet (Alex Adams & Dalton Adams), Trombone Choir (Sydney Boeckholt, Dalton Adams, Anna Seeger, Jessica Hudson, Thor Heimdal, Eric Johnson, Billy Larson, Tom Mayer), Vocal Ensembles (Shanae Haan, Emma Myhre, Hailey Ebel, Melanie Clemen, Alex Adams, Grace Schoenthal).

Soloists earning a Division II Rating were Rachel Werner (trumpet); Billy Larson (trombone); Tom Mayer, Cody Budrow, Austin Kolegraff (vocal).

Ensembles Earning a Division II Rating were Trumpet Trio (Maddie Bates, Rachel Werner, Alex Adams); Vocal Ensembles (Shanae Haan, Hailey Ebel, Melanie Clemen, Alex Adams, Cody Budrow, Josh Rausch, Jordan Hanson, Tom Mayer), (Josh Rausch, Jacob Morrow, Austin Duncan, Cody Budrow, Austin Kolegraff, Jacob Hand, Jordan Hanson, Tom Mayer), (Rochelle Hanson, Emma Myhre, Grace Schoenthal, Sara Mayer, Jacob Morrow, Austin Duncan, Austin Kolegraff, Jacob Hand), and Chamber Choir.

 
Performances can only miss a few points and still earn a Division I rating.  A number of Okoboji performances missed only one point, but four Okoboji events received a perfect score from their judge.  They were soloists Emma Myhre (vocal), Mallory Luers (clarinet), Flute Trio (Mikyala Perkins, Erin Moir, Haley Bushee), and the Saxophone Ensemble (Abi Meyer, Melanie Clemen, Emma Myhre, Mallory Luers and Jon Ahrens).  At the end of the day each judge has the option of awarding the most Outstanding Performance of the Day for his or her center.  The saxophone ensemble was selected as the Outstanding Performance of the Day for their center.
