Pickup Reported Stolen Out Of Sioux County Recovered In Spirit Lake; Suspect Arrested

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)—A pickup reported stolen out of Sioux county over the weekend has been recovered in Spirit Lake and a suspect has been arrested and charged in the case.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the 2001 Ford Ranger was reported stolen Saturday evening. Authorities say the keys had been left in it. The pickup was taken from a field driveway two and-a-half miles east of Boyden while the owner was working in a nearby field.

Spirit Lake police found the stolen pickup around 11:40 p.m. Saturday parked at a residence at 1509 Erie Avenue. Upon investigating, Spirit Lake police arrested 24-year-old Kurt Walker of Sheldon on a charge of theft in the 2nd degree-motor vehicle theft, a class “D” felony. He was booked into the Dickinson county jail. Authorities say Walker is currently an inmate of the Iowa Department of Correction’s Residential Treatment Facility in Sheldon and that he faces additional charges for escape from custody.

Walker was also wanted for allegedly stealing a bicycle from Northwest Iowa Community College near Sheldon. Authorities say the bicycle was also found in his possession, in the stolen pickup.

Walker faces additional charges in Sioux county pending extradition.
