Barb’s Corner Collision Injures Three

November 22, 2014

(Everly)—The Iowa State Patrol has released details into a collision this past Sunday at the intersection of Highway 18 and Clay County Road M27…or Barb’s Corner.

Troopers say 76-year-old Barbara Weier of Hartley was driving a 2008 Saturn Vue eastbound on Highway 18 and 33-year-old Marissa Hopcroft of Primghar was driving a 1996 Chrysler Town and Country van westbound at the intersection with County Road M27. Authorities say Weier attempted to turn left into the parking lot of Barb’s Corner restaurant when she turned into the path of the vehicle Hopcroft was driving, resulting in a collision. Troopers say the vehicle Weier was driving came to rest after bumping into the driver’s side rear tire of a pickup that was parked at the restaurant. Hopcroft’s vehicle came to rest against a sidewalk curb in front of the restaurant.

Hopcroft and Weier, along with a passenger in Weier’s vehicle, 87-year-old Jean Rohlf, were taken to Spencer Hospital.

Weier was cited for failure to yield upon making a left turn.

$13,000 in damage was estimated to the vehicle driven by Weier; damage to the vehicle driven by Hopcroft was put at $2,500.

The State Patrol was assisted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Everly Fire and Rescue and the Spencer ambulance.
