Tree Issue Knocks Out Power To Most Of Okoboji; Outage Lasts More Than 2 Hours For Some

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)— Some residents and businesses in the Iowa Great Lakes spent up to two and-a-half hours in the dark last (Wed.) evening.

Justin Foss, a spokesman for Alliant Energy, tells KUOO news some tree branches came into contact with some power lines, causing lights to flicker in many areas of the Iowa Great Lakes, and knocking out power entirely to most of Okoboji. Some areas went more than two hours without electricity. The outage started around 6:00 p.m. and power wasn’t restored to some areas until about 8:30 p.m. The outage affected a number of businesses as well. It came at the busiest time of day for several, such as McDonalds, Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center, and the Great Lakes Cinema 7 Theatre.

Foss says about 720 Alliant Energy customers in Okoboji were affected by the outage.
