No Injuries Reported In House Fire

November 22, 2014 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)—Careless use of smoking materials has been sited as the probable cause of a house fire Monday in Spencer.

Spencer Fire Chief Doug Duncan says firefighters were called to 612 3rd Avenue West shortly after 1:00 p.m. Upon arriving he says firefighters could see flames coming from a window on the northwest corner of the home, on the first floor. He says firefighters entered the home and quickly extinguished the fire. Smoke was then ventilated from the structure, which was checked over for any signs of an extension of the fire. None were found.

The home is owned by John Berg and was occupied by the Carl Freeman family. No injuries were reported.

Fire damage was reported to the room in which the fire originated, with smoke damage throughout the home.

Spencer firefighters were on the scene about 90 minutes. They were assisted by Spencer police and Spencer Hospital paramedics.
