Clarice Harms, 98, of May City, IA, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Accura Healthcare of Milford.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in May City, IA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be held in the Harrison Township Cemetery in Rural May City, IA. Clarice Mae (Recher) Harms was born on September 12, 1927, to John and Norma (Peterson) Recher at their home in Ocheyedan, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in May City, IA. She received her 1st through 8th grade education at Allison Township County School. She graduated from Hartley High School in 1946.
She taught at the country school for 2 years in Harrison Township. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Reed Harms on July 9, 1948, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City, IA. He preceded her in death in 1997. Together, they farmed in the Melvin, Harris and Lake Park area until 1986, when they retired to May City, IA.
She and Lawrence became parents of Yvonne, Gordon, Kathryn, and Brian. Grandchildren are Kara and Mark Leemkuil, Jason and Scott Harms, Eric and Michael Anderson and Macy Harms.
She taught Sunday School and was active in church and LWML and served on the Altar Guild and held various offices. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, making homemade gifts and doing charcoal drawings.
She is survived by her children Yvonne (Steve) Leemkuil of Spirit Lake, IA; Gordon (Sheralyn) Harms of David City, NE; Kathryn (Dave) Anderson of Red Wood Falls, MN; and Brian (Deb) Harms of Spirit Lake, IA; grandchildren Jason and Scott Harms, Eric and Michael Anderson, Macy Harms, Kara Maxwell and Mark Leemkuil, 7 great grandchildren, sister Ardella Butler of Clarinda, IA; and her brother-in-law Bill Wagner of Primghar, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Lawrence Harms, sisters Marcella Wagner and Lila Koostra.
