Water Rates In Okoboji May Be Going Up

April 10, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Okoboji)– Another lakes area community is looking at a possible increase in water rates. The Okoboji City Council Tuesday set May 13th as the date for a public hearing on a possible increase for that community.

City Administrator Michael Meyers says Central Water, which provides drinking water to both Okoboji and Arnolds Park, is facing increased costs with equipment operations at the water plant. Meyers says they haven’t settled on the amount of any increase just yet…

“So as we look at our water fund for fiscal year ’26 there’s some major capital improvements that are needing to happen with our water plant, so as part of that we need to make sure that we react responsibly and fiscally and we’re trying to look at our water rates and see if we can make up those revenues while making it not very impactful for our residents is our hope.”

Meyers says he’ll have numbers to present to the council for the May 13th hearing.

The Arnolds Park City Council Wednesday evening adopted an increase in water rates for that community following a public hearing.
