(Okoboji)– Emmet County Veterans Affairs will hold their second annual walk to end veteran homelessness on May 3rd in Okoboji. Casee Ross, Administrator with Emmet county Veterans Affairs, says they hope to build on last year’s event…
“We raised just under $14,000 and that last year was for a service dog organization ah very successful we weren’t sure like I said about attendance and etc cause it is on Walley Weekend. However we had about 195 in attendance last year and it was very beneficial.”
Ross says this year the money raised will go to Moving Veterans Forward of Algona…
“Which is a service organization with a huge warehouse in Algona and it has anything you could think of to fill an apartment for a service member. So the veteran essentially just goes there picks out what they want and they help deliver right to the facility or the place where the veteran is living so its amazing.”
Ross says the event is all about awareness and networking…
“I”m hoping to raise some awareness, make those connections let veterans know hey you’re not alone you’ve never been alone. There are 99 counties. Each of us have a VSO which Veterans Service Officer which is my title and we all care so much. We’re very very fortunate to have a power team her in northwest Iowa and to make those connections and get those Veterans the resources they deserve and get them on the straight and narrow would be the best case scenario of this event.”
