Two Vehicle Collision Just East Of Spencer Results In Minor Injuries

March 24, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Minor injuries were reported Friday in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 18 and 240th Avenue just east of Spencer.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 56-year-old Lisa Grossnickle of Laurens was driving a 2022 Lincoln eastbound on Highway 18 and 86-year-old Donald Bjorkland of Spencer was driving a 2023 Ford pickup northbound on 240th Avenue. Deputies say Bjorkland failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the vehicle driven by Grossnickle, causing it to spin down the road before coming to rest.

Damage to the vehicle driven by Grossnickle was estimated at $20,000; $15,000 in damage was estimated to the pickup Bjorkland was driving. He was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.

The Spencer Police Department, Spencer Ambulance and the Spencer and Dickens Fire Departments assisted on the scene.
