Two Area Cities To Be Recognized For Tree Planting, Maintenance

(Des Moines)– Two area communities are being recognized for tree planting and maintenance. The cities of Arnolds Park and Spencer are recipients of a Tree City USA Award. To be eligible a city must have either a city forester or an active city tree board, have a tree ordinance, spend at least two dollars per capita annually for a community forestry program and have a tree planting and maintenance program.

Arnolds Park was also awarded a Tree City USA Growth Award for education and public relations, partnerships, planning and management and tree planting and maintenance.

The awards will be presented April 3rd in Ankeny on behalf of the Arbor Day Foundation and the Iowa Department of Natural Resourcecs.
