Traffic Stop Lands Ocheyedan Man In Jail On Drug Charges

June 24, 2025

(Sheldon)– An Ocheyedan man was arrested on drug charges Sunday during a traffic stop in Sheldon that resulted in police finding a little more than 67 grams of methamphetamine. 23-year-old Rian Engelkes was charged with a controlled substance violation, possession of a controlled substance and failure to affix a drug tax stamp. He was booked into the O’Brien County Jail.

In a criminal complaint, police say Engelkes was a passenger in the vehicle and that the officer discovered a bag of a white crystalline substance between the center console and passenger seat, and that Engelkes admitted that it belonged to him.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for July 3rd in O’Brien County District Court.
