(Lake Park)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday approved a request from the city of Lake Park and the Harris-Lake Park Community Schools to keep a stop sign at a school crossing on County Road M-27 near the Middle and High School in Lake Park.
Truckers hauling to and from the elevator had expressed opposition to always having to stop at the crossing, even when school is not in session. They say the stopping and starting back up results in additional fuel costs. They want a different type of traffic control device installed in that area.
The county got involved because it has jurisdiction over the road. But several supervisors indicated Tuesday they want the city to eventually take it over, since Lake Park has now annexed land all the way south to Highway 9.
