Spencer Firefighters Respond To Second House Fire In As Many Days

(Spencer)– For the second time in as many days, the Spencer Fire Department was called shortly after 10:30 pm Sunday to a house fire. Firefighters were called to 130 3rd Avenue East in Spencer and upon arriving found heavy fire coming from the first floor. At the time, it was believed a child was in the home. Firefighters entered a 2nd floor window on the back of the home but did not locate a child. Authorities learned a short time later the child was NOT in the home at the time of the fire.

The Dickens Fire Department was called for mutual aid as fire was found burning on the 1st and 2nd floors of the home as well as in the attic. Heavy fire and smoke damage was reported throughout the residence. Firefighters were on the scene several hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Spencer Police Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer Hospital paramedics and Spencer Municipal Utilities assisted on the scene.
