(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council Monday evening adopted a new contract with the union representing a number of city workers. City Manager Kevin Robinson says the agreement with the Spencer Employees Association represents a voluntary concession on behalf of the union…
“State law says that the union, at a minimum, can receive a 3.0 percent COLA, or the Consumer Price Index, whichever is lower, and the CPI is right around that three percent. Post flood, and this is the first property tax year post flood, this community had 904 residential properties lose property tax value. That’s 18 percent of our properties. Through negotiations, the union was willing to take less than what they’re entitled to by state law. Half of that, which to the taxpayers, is about $200,000.”
Robinson expressed his gratitude to the association on behalf of the city. He added the fact that homes heavily damaged in the flood involved in the buyout program have yet to come off the tax rolls along with uncertainties over changes at the state level are adding to budget challenges for the city.
