SL Firefighters Respond To Controlled Burn That Got Out Of Control

March 28, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake Fire Department spent about an hour today (Friday) putting out a fire after a controlled burn got out of hand.

Firefighters were called a little after 10:30 am to 15715 250th Avenue, north of Elinor Bedell State Park.

Authorities say it’s a reminder to use extreme caution whenever burning and to never leave a burn unattended. They say it’s also important to check the forecast ahead of time and to contact the Dickinson County Communications Center before doing any open burning.

***UPDATE*** The Spirit Lake Fire Department was called back to that same location around 3:45 this (Friday) afternoon. They were on the scene this time around less than a half hour.
