(West Okoboji)– A ribbon cutting was held this (Fri.) morning on some renovations and improvements at Terrace Park Beach in West Okoboji. Mayor Craig Miner says they’re thrilled with how the project turned out…
“I mean this beach has been transformed to a project where it’s for all ages. Transformational, generational, so the kids’ kids’ kids can still come and enjoy this with safety in mind, angle parking so you don’t have to get out in front of traffic any more. The beautification from the flowers to the brand new trees. We had to cut down the old trees because they were dying, but we have brand new trees coming up. I encourage everyone to just come down. If they don’t stop and go to the beach, just drive by and take a look at how beautiful this transformation is on Terrace Park Beach.”
Miner says he’s grateful to everyone who made the project possible, especially Imagine Iowa Great Lakes…
“When they brought the mini queen in down at the landing across from Kum ‘n Go I got thinking wow. Then I saw John Frankin at The Ritz one day and we started talking and I introduced the idea to maybe get the Imagine group involved in beautifying the beach and it got traction and more traction until this happened and donations from the public and the community, Des Moines CAT Grant, just found grants from all over to help make this possible and I’m just so grateful for the community and people.”
West Okoboji City Administrator Carol Chicoine says a few finishing touches remain on the project…
“We’ve got a bike rack coming, we do have a speed limit so down sign so we get people slowed down through this area. We’ve got another speed bump coming because we’re anticipating that we’re going to have a busy beach this year, just for safety issues. It’s kind of nice, we have increased parking now. We have 76 parking spots that we didn’t have before so we’re hoping that this is a packed beach all summer long.”
The project was originally scheduled for completion last year but wound up getting pushed back due to the flood.
