(Arnolds Park)– Planning is well under way for the 44th Annual Iowa Great Lakes Walleye Weekend. Last year the big prize was caught on Big Spirit Lake, just two hours after the contest started. Dawn Ingvaldson of Albert Lea, MN went home with $43,000 as she was the only one to catch a tagged fish during the weekend. Registration is now open for Walleye Weekend and Morgan Strauss, with the Iowa Great Lakes Chamber, talks about this year’s event…
“Walleye weekend is going to be May second and third this year it’ll be the 44th annual, and we will have that $44,000 grand prize for the lucky winner who catches that fish during that time, the extended contest, you get a portion of the registration within a certain window, so be sure to check that out. Those percentages. And then we also are bringing back the largest walleye competition through our Fish Donkey app. So make sure you download that and enter there as well.”
There are 10 walleye that are tagged and released into the chain of the Iowa Great Lakes. The contest starts at midnight on Saturday May 2nd and ends May 3rd at 11:59 PM. The extended contest goes through August 31st.
