Preparations for the 67th Season at the Okoboji Summer Theatre are Underway

June 03, 2025 Kari Brolsma

Some of the students have arrived on site at the Okoboji Summer Theatre and Michael Burke, Director of Production and Operations, says they have already been busy…

“First day of sort of unpacking, cleaning. We’re probably going to take the plastic off the seats that’s been on there since August of last year. Sort of get ready and also show the students around. A lot of them are new to us. They don’t know where the light switches are. We want to get them really familiar and really start to spread out and get our shops open and cleaned, get our rehearsal spaces ready. All those things are on the list.”

Ruth Ann Burke, Executive Director of the Okoboji Summer Theatre says they are looking forward to the upcoming season and you can attend the pre-season Gala called A Night at the Speakeasy…

“Our gala is a preview, a 1920’s style of all of the shows that we’ll be doing featuring the musicals with little excerpts for everybody to come and enjoy and see what we’re up to this summer. If you want to help support the Okoboji Summer Theatre, we hope you’ll join us.”

The Gala will be held on June 23rd at 6:00. Madison Dodd who is the Director of the Boji Bantam Children’s Summer Theatre program will return again this year…

“She’s going to be directing Stuart Little the week after the 4th and then the week after that we’re going to be repeating our Boji Bantam Broadway Bootcamp the week of July 14th through the 19th.”

The bootcamp is designed for kids that are interested in the arts for ages 12 and older. Burke talks about what kids can expect from the bootcamp…

“They’ll spend a whole immersive week with our guest artists learning about movement, music, working on vocal skills, acting skills and putting together a showcase that will be open to the public Saturday morning July 19th.”

To find out more information on the bootcamp you can go to stephens.edu/bantam-bootcamp. Tickets for upcoming shows are on sale now at eventbrite.com and you can also email boxoffice@okobojisummertheatre.org
