(Milford)– Okoboji-Spirit Lake High School debaters brought home 16 trophies from the state debate tournament this past weekend.
In Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Jack Ave placed 3rd from OSL. His only losses were to Abbie Shew and the tournament champion. He lost in the semi-finals on a 2-1 decision. Shew and Clare Eckard advanced to the elimination rounds and ended tied for 9th.
In Public Forum Debate, Clare Huntress and Erin Richey were undefeated in prelims, and Richey earned All State Honors. Jordan Hanson and Keaton Jones advanced to elimination rounds and Hanson earned all state honors. Brandie Bushee and Emma Myhre advanced to elimination rounds and Myhre, a freshman, finished as the second speaker out of more than 100 and earned all state honors.
In Legislative Debate, Katie Johnson, Miranda Johnson and Jenn Van Ohrt advanced to the Top house. Miranda Johnson earned Excellent Senator award and Katie Johnson and Van Oort earned Superior Senator awards and All State honors.
