Daren L. Wilson

Daren L. Wilson, 47, of Petersburg, Minnesota passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 9th. A funeral service will be held at 10a.m. on Friday, January 18th, at the Methodist Church in West Bend, Iowa with Pastor Nathan Tabelisma officiating. Burial to follow at the West Bend Cemetery.

A celebration of Daren’s life will take place at 3p.m. on Saturday, January 19th at the family farm located at: 1595 330th Ave, one mile east of Superior, Iowa. Those planning on attending should look for the sign off Highway 9.

Daren Leroy Wilson, the son of Dennis Wilson and Lynda Hatland, was born on August 17, 1971 in Virginia, Minnesota. Daren attended Grand Rapids public schools and graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1989. Upon his graduation Daren traveled to both coasts helping his sister while her husband was deployed overseas. While on the East Coast, he loved building houses on the Atlantic Ocean coastline. After his excursions he returned to the Iowa Lakes area, where he attended Iowa Lakes Community College for 2 years, obtaining his trade certificate in welding. He worked as a welder for several years at Polaris and AGCO, before landing his dream job with B & H in Jackson, MN. In 1999, Daren made his home in Petersburg, Minnesota on a beautiful piece of land right on the river. Daren passed away at his home in Petersburg on January 9, 2019 at the age of 47 years, four months and 23 days.

Daren (Willy) was brutally honest, yet funny and jovial. He could be owly and growly, but sweet and sensitive. He was a true friend to many, through good and bad, and he had a good heart, which he wore on his sleeve. He knew something about everything, and sometimes he was (even) right. He enjoyed listening to music with Metallica being #1 on his list. Daren had a passion for the outdoors. He loved ice fishing, bow hunting, and hockey: pond, pro, and college and thoroughly enjoyed teaching little kids how to play the game. He could fix almost anything with a motor, only because he was the king of tinkering, whether it was a truck, car, motorcycle, snowmobile, lawnmower, or ice auger. He never sat down.

Daren is survived by his father Dennis (Diane) Wilson of West Bend, Iowa; his mother Lynda Hatland of Spirit Lake, Iowa; his sisters Denda (Dean) Evans of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Deb (Steve) Bueltel of Superior, Iowa; his brother Lyle (Jaci) Pauling of Sherburn, Minnesota; and his loved one Alethea Rostad of Jackson, Minnesota.  Also surviving are his nieces and nephews:  Aston Gellert, Adam Gellert, Tate Evans, Cody Ramsey, Kayla McNew, Trevor Bueltel, Adison Pauling, and a great niece Calli Gellert; and his Fur-Baby Scuppy.

Daren is preceded in death by his Grandpa and Grandma Wilson and his Grandpa and Grandma Simacek; uncle Kenny Simacek; and his Fur-ever friend Goose.

Blessed be the memory of Daren Leroy Wilson.
