(Estherville) Earlier this week we reported that Carol Ayres Stueven is retiring from Iowa Lakes Community College as a professor and the band director and Lincoln Larsen will be taking her place. Larsen is very excited for his new role at a familiar place…
“I’m extremely proud. It’s really cool to come back to Iowa Lakes, come back home essentially and you know I’m very fortunate that I was essentially trained by Carol and the fact that I get to continue her legacy there is absolutely amazing. I’m so thankful for this opportunity and so happy to come back home and be able to give back to the community that I was a part of.”
After completing his degree at Iowa Lakes, Larsen attended Morningside University where he obtained his teaching license for K-12 music. He then attended New Mexico University to complete his Masters degree. Larsen talks about his experiences in New Mexico…
“I’ve had so many different opportunities helping out with the Pride of New Mexico which is a 250 piece marching band. Being a part of the jazz bands and everything, being a part of the wind ensembles and we’ve had so many cool opportunities and then finally I got to be the 6th grade band and choir director which is beginning band and choir at Deming New Mexico which is a very rural town in New Mexico. It’s right close to the border so they have over 1000 students that are bussed across the border every single day to come to school in America.”
Larsen says one thing he is not excited about is the weather…
Larsen will oversee the college’s music and performing arts programming, including ensembles, performances and student engagement across campuses. For more information on the music department at Iowa Lakes you can visit iowalakes.edu
