Milford Police Chief Says Law Enforcement, EMS Personnel Will Be Stepped Up Considerably For RAGBRAI

April 24, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– Milford Police Chief Shilo Brevik says he’s confident the bases are covered when it comes to law enforcement, first responders and emergency service providers when it comes to RAGBRAI in that community. He gave an update to the public on those preparations as part of Wednesday’s community meeting…

“There will be additional Iowa State Patrol in the area assisting and then there will be local law enforcement agencies. We’ll bring on some part time help. Emergency Management will have a command center down here but we’re not disclosing that location at this point. And then on top of that there will be EMT’s, both ATV, golf carts, around in the area and then we’ll have some additional ambulance personnel in the area.”

Brevik adds the additional personnel coming into Milford July 20th will be quite substantial…

“Just in law enforcement we’ll likely have, not counting the other agencies in the lakes area that will have their own personnel out, just in Milford we’ll likely have 20 to 25 officers and then we’ll have the patrol and then Arnolds Park, Okoboji, and some of those out as well. EMT’s, I’m not certain how many they’re going to put on. I know they’re hoping to have plenty of additional staff, both paramedic and EMT’s, first responders. And I know the Fire Department is going to have personnel out for that event, also.”

And when it comes to open containers, Brevik says they’ll only be allowed in one specific area…

“The only place that will be allowed is the beer garden. I don’t know if the city’s going to look at any other options or not, but as of now it will be the beer garden only.”

Brevik adds the public will also need to be aware of some road closures that day…

“Once we get the finalization from Iowa D.O.T on road closures, then we’ll be able to lock down on how we’re going to do that exactly and make that as safe as possible.”

We’ll hear about how costs associated with bringing RAGBRAI to Milford are being handled coming up in future newscasts.
