(Jackson, Mn.)– A man convicted of killing his brother in June, 2010 at a Lakefield nursing home has been sentenced to 306 months in prison.
Jackson County Attorney Robert O’Conner announced the sentence against 38-year-old TyRon Collins was handed down Wednesday.
A jury in Mankato on October 28th, 2011 found Collins guilty of murder in the second degree, intentional; and murder in the second degree, felony murder assault.
The trial was moved to Mankato on a change of venue.
The state filed a motion seeking a sentence of 367 months, which is the top end of the sentencing range set by the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines. Defense attorneys filed a motion seeking 261 months, which is the bottom end of the range. After victim impact statements were read and the motions were considered, the judge sentenced Collins to the 306 month sentence.
