Man Dies After Getting Trapped In Grain Bin

(Dickens)– A rural Dickens man has died after getting trapped in a grain bin.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 65-year-old Doug Sorenson was attempting to loosen some grain that had hardened in the bin when he was pulled into the corn by an auger.

Upon arriving on the scene rescue crews cut holes in the side of the bin and removed corn before they locate Sorenson, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Clay County Medical Examiner Dr. David Robinson.

Authorities were called to the scene about a half mile north of Highway 18 on County Road N-14 around 8:22 a.m. Friday.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, Dickens Fire and Rescue, Ruthven Fire and Rescue, Ruthven ambulance, Spencer ambulance, Clay County Emergency Management and by family and friends of the victim.
