(Des Moines)– The Iowa Finance Authority’s Board of Directors announced today (Tues.) it’s approved more than 4.8 million dollars in grants to 25 local housing trust funds to assist them with affordable housing projects.
The grant funds will be used for initiatives such as subsidizing local down payment assistance programs, providing low-interest loans or grants to assist Iowans with home rehabilitation, financing construction of new single-family housing for low-income Iowans, supporting transitional housing programs and for homeless assistance and prevention.
Locally, the Clay County Housing Trust Fund and the Lakes Community Land Trust, which serves Dickinson county, were awarded $46,667 each; and the Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund was awarded $241,707. That entity serves Buena Vista, Emmet, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola and Sioux counties.
The Iowa Legislature created the Iowa Finance Authority in 1975; the Local Housing Trust Fund program was created by the Legislature in 2003.
