Lakefield Police Department Releases Its Annual Report

March 26, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Lakefield, Mn.)– The Lakefield Police Department is out with its statistics for 2024. The report shows the department had 1,330 calls for service, up from 1,121 in 2023. Citations that were issued were nearly identical, with 58 in 2024 compared with 59 in 2023.

Chief Roger Pohlman says the department has implemented new technology to give officers the ability to perform their duties more efficiently while maintaining accountability and transparency. He says it fulfills the department’s mission statement…

Our mission statement talks about promoting community through education, partnerships and enforcement. So we wanna make sure that our efforts are meeting those educational partnerships and enforcement efforts that we demonstrate are important to us.”

Pohlman says education and community involvement is key to developing positive relationships…

“It means the difference between somebody sharing a crime tip with you or not trusting you and then not saying anything so its key to our job to make sure that we get along with the public and that we are serving the public that employs us.”

Pohlman has served as Lakefield’s Police Chief since March 27th, 2021…

One thing I’ve learned in my career is it’s very important that law enforcement targets the behavior and the crime. We never want to target people or individuals. Everybody has their own life to live and we wanna make sure they enjoy it to the best of their ability and not with interference from police so we address behaviors and not people.”

The Lakefield Police Department consists of five people, three full time and two part time.
